Matthew Hobkinson

Matt Hobkinson is a notable sports journalist who specialises in Formula 1, delivering first-class content for GPFans.

Having started his professional career in the insurance sector, Matt then decided to pursue his passion for writing and sharing news by committing to journalism full-time. He learnt his trade with PA Media, whereby he would be one of just four graduates among his cohort to be offered a full-time role at the company upon the completion of his NCTJ Diploma.

Matt would go on to cut his teeth at the Manchester Evening News and become an integral part of their coverage of both Manchester United and Manchester City. Having spent six-months in the fast-paced environment at the MEN, a move to Reach’s North East & Yorkshire team would soon follow. There he would go on to run LeedsLive’s matchday blogs for Leeds United’s Premier League games, while also covering live managerial press conferences for the club.

Further joy at the ChronicleLive would also see Matt get involved with Newcastle United’s surge up the Premier League table, helping the site capitalise on the team’s growing interest. A step away from football in the summer of 2023 would see Matt leave football behind as he used his passion for Formula 1 to help drive GPFans forward in his capacity as both a writer and editor.

Away from writing, Matt has also had experience on the mic after he brought his weekly 5-a-side football matches to life through his ‘9-to-5-a-side’ podcast.
