Chris Deeley

Chris Deeley is a sports journalist and editor with a decade's experience in the industry, although he's yet to figure out exactly what he's meant to be doing in that time.

He got his start at 90min as an intern, before moving into a full-time role and later a position on the editorial team – covering countless Premier League matches and leading the site's women's football coverage, including a chaotic month in France following England and the USA at the 2019 World Cup. He later moved within the company to serve as the Editorial Director for FanSided's soccer division.

Outside of 'mainstream' football, Chris also wrote Forgotten Nations [2019] (published by Pitch Publishing) about the sport's significance in 'countries' – breakaway states, republics, autonomous regions etc. – not recognised as such by FIFA, and how their national teams relate to their regions' identities. He also has bylines for the Metro, Vice and the Huffington Post on subjects ranging from hot dog cart conspiracies to The Wurzels' 1976 hit 'The Combine Harvester'.

Chris joined GPFans in the spring of 2023, having been a lifelong fan of Formula 1. He believes that the strongest form of love is expressed by gentle ridicule, leading to articles like The Love Island Piece.

Away from the keyboard, he has several years of radio experience. That began with cricket commentary on Test Match Sofa and Guerilla Cricket, but has also included a year co-hosting weekend shows on Love Sport Radio and several radio and podcast guest appearances (including The Totally Football Show and Times Radio), and led to multiple appearances on camera for TRT World and the women's football show on 90min Talks.
